Full in-person capacity!

Fundación Repsol and EsadeGeo are organising the second event in “The Geopolitics of Energy”, a series exploring how major geopolitical shocks and the energy transition shape one another. Each session brings together leading international voices to shed light on the forces redrawing the global energy map.

In this webinar, Ángel Saz-Carranza, Director of EsadeGeo, will be joined by Fernando Martín Espejo, Associate Director and Head of the Analytical Unit at IMD’s Global Trade Alert. Together, they will examine how, since the pandemic, industrial policy has evolved from being a largely domestic policy tool to taking centre stage in governments’ security and foreign policy agendas. Episodes such as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz or the tariff war initiated by the United States illustrate the extent to which security of supply, including energy supply, has become a shared priority, albeit one that different governments translate into different policies. The discussion will conclude by turning to China: how it has consolidated a dominant position in renewable technologies and how other countries are responding with industrial policies of their own.
