Repsol Foundation Chair in Energy Transition: the circular economy for a competitive industry

To promote the circular economy as a means of boosting competitiveness, resource efficiency and the sustainable transformation of industry.

The Repsol Foundation Chair in Energy Transition at the University of Navarra – Tecnun aims to generate and disseminate knowledge on the circular economy as applied to industry, understood as a key driver for progress towards more competitive, efficient and sustainable production models.

The Chair explores how the efficient use of materials, energy and resources, the reduction and recovery of waste, circular processes, circular logistics and organisational innovation can contribute to the sustainable transformation of industry and the decarbonisation of the economy.

Objective of the Classroom 

The aim of the Chair is to generate rigorous knowledge and disseminate solutions related to the circular economy that contribute to improving the competitiveness of industry, optimising the use of materials, energy and resources, reducing waste and moving towards more efficient, resilient and sustainable production models.

  • The circular economy applied to industry
  • Analysis of opportunities to incorporate circularity criteria into production processes, products, operations and industrial models.
  • Competitiveness and efficiency in the use of resources
  • Study of how improvements in the efficiency of materials, energy, water and processes can strengthen business competitiveness and reduce dependence on external resources.
  • Circularity in industrial processes and logistics
  • Analysis of solutions relating to process optimisation, reverse logistics, the reuse of materials, resource recovery and waste valorisation within industrial value chains.
  • Innovation and industrial sustainability
  • Identification and dissemination of technological, organisational and management solutions that enable progress towards a more sustainable industry, without compromising competitiveness.
  • Circular business models
  • Analysis of value-creation strategies based on reuse, repair, recycling, industrial symbiosis, eco-design, the valorisation of by-products and new models of business collaboration.
  • Knowledge transfer to businesses and society
  • Generation and dissemination of knowledge through observatories, academic work, webinars, courses, conferences, publications, training activities and collaboration with the business community. Until the 2025/2026 academic year, the activities of the Repsol Foundation Chair in Energy Transition at the University of Navarra – Tecnun focused on hydrogen as an energy carrier. During this period, initiatives were developed relating to the hydrogen value chain, including its production, storage, transport, regulation, safety and applications in industry and mobility.

The materials produced during this period — events, courses, publications, Master’s dissertations and other activities — will remain available in the menus for 2026 and previous years.
