Towards Net Zero: The Role of Energy Communities in the Decarbonization of Cities
With a complex structure, characterized by population density and the concentration of industry, services, and transportation networks, cities are responsible for 70% of global carbon emissions. Therefore, they play a critical role in combating climate change.
On a path marked by challenges but also opportunities, Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) emerge, fostering the production and use of renewable energy sources, promoting energy efficiency, enhancing social inclusion, and empowering citizens and organizations in the transition to a more sustainable and resilient society. Municipalities, due to their aggregating role, can play a significant part in promoting these community models at the local level.
This webinar aims to highlight the benefits of the energy production and sharing model through a Renewable Energy Community (REC) or collective self-consumption, and to present, in a structured manner, the essential steps for its implementation. A set of practical examples – already implemented or in progress – will illustrate the virtues and flexibility of the model.
