🌍 Assessment of Technologies and Energy Sources in Road Transport
When comparing different technologies and energy sources used in road transport from the point of view of environmental sustainability, a key question arises: is it sufficient to consider only their impact on climate change, i.e. their carbon footprint?
This study by the Repsol Foundation Chair in Energy Transition at the Polytechnic University of Madrid analyses this question. The comparison should be extended to other environmental impacts that can be assessed through the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology.
🌱 Beyond Carbon Footprints
It is very difficult to find single solutions that minimise all environmental impacts at the same time and are applicable in all geographical areas. However, taking these impacts into account is indispensable to minimise them. Based on the environmental impact categories established in the Environmental Footprint environmental impact assessment method recommended by the European Commission through the European Life Cycle Assessment Platform, a literature review has been carried out to try to answer this question.
