The deployment of renewable gases, such as biogas and biomethane, is positioned as a key element in the Spanish strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, reducing energy dependence and promoting economic recovery in rural areas. In addition to the challenge of developing these projects, there is also the ambition to increase the targets for biomethane production in Spain.
Biomethane helps the development and transformation of rural Spain, contributing to the economic recovery agenda and also to the fight against the demographic challenge. Our country has abundant livestock, agricultural and food waste, and companies capable of converting this waste into renewable fuels.
In this context, a stable regulatory framework and the creation of new revenue streams, such as guarantees of origin, can be crucial to ensure the viability of biomethane project deployment.
