This study looks at how the sustainability of road transport should not be limited only to environmental 🌱 aspects, but it is also essential to consider its social and economic effects. In Spain, this sector is very relevant due to the number of people it employs and its weight in the national economy👷🚚.
Beyond pollution and energy efficiency, different vehicle technologies (such as electric, hybrid, internal combustion and hydrogen) have diverse societal impacts. For example, internal 🚗combustion vehicles tend to generate more jobs and better wages due to their established industry, while electric vehicles, although better for public health due to their low emissions, depend on the extraction of materials that can involve difficult working conditions.
The study also highlights that electric ⚡🔋 vehicles can benefit from tax advantages, but their positive impact on employment and working conditions still needs to be studied further. In addition, the importance of further researching these topics with standardised methods to make informed decisions that favour a sustainable transition in road transport is noted.
