In 2021, Grupo Sylvestris and Fundación Repsol identified the opportunity to promote the first reforestation project carried out in Spain under the Verra standard, one of the most prestigious in the voluntary carbon market.
To do this, a burned area in Grandas de Salime (Asturias) was selected for reforestation under the framework of the Motor Verde project, a large-scale reforestation program in the Iberian Peninsula promoted by Fundación Repsol and Grupo Sylvestris.
The certification of the Grandas de Salime forest under Verra's VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) program began after the summer of 2022.
Three years later, Grupo Sylvestris, Repsol Foundation, Global Factor, Climit, Carbosur and AENOR have achieved a historic milestone by registering the first project in the Iberian Peninsula certified by Verra under its standard.
