At a critical time for climate action, it is essential to recognise the importance of carbon emission reduction projects, as well as carbon sequestration projects, in order to meet the goal of decarbonising the economy. Technology neutrality will play a crucial role in the path towards the goal of net zero emissions, thus ensuring that all innovative technologies and solutions, being viable, are also explored to achieve carbon neutrality.
In Portugal, we have an ambitious commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. This goal requires a joint and continuous effort, where nature-based solutions such as reforestation projects, forest conservation and marine ecosystem restoration are examples of initiatives that complement industrial and technological initiatives, providing additional benefits such as biodiversity protection and support to local communities.
